Mendoza (30-Apr/01-May) - Travel around the world

Mendoza (30-Apr/01-May)

After a long night in the bus (this time with cama... some kind of business class in buses) I arrived in the city of Mendoza in northern Argentina. This city is a nice and calm city, but it is mostly well known for its vineyards.

After a long night in the bus (this time with cama... some kind of business class in buses) I arrived in the city of Mendoza in northern Argentina. This city is a nice and calm city, but it is mostly well known for its vineyards. I just spend 2 days there first because I believe there are more interesting places to go on my trip, and second cause I did not find anything exceptional there. For sure this is a nice and quiet city, you can see the Andes with snow not so far away... but otherwise, I definitely preferred places like Bariloche or El Calafate. The vineyards and wine factories do not have anything exceptional. I visited one which is owned by french people. The wine is very basic and the installations do not stand the comparison with what I had already seen in Burgundy for example. Still Mendoza was a good occasion for me to remember of the Argentina in crisis story... I remember struggling with money last year in Buenos Aires and I had really been surprised not to encounter the same problems so far. Seems like I had been lucky :P. Appart from the fact that ATMs are accepting to give only 300 pesos (around 60€) to my Mastercard... the main problem I encountered in Mendoza is that noone ever has change... and noone ever accepts to give you change (in shops or anywhere)... and to take the buses to need to use coins :S. So to avoid being stuck there, I had to travel without ticket between Maipu (where the vineyard was) and Mendoza with the bus driver complaining... Today I'm heading to Cordoba... before heading to Salta on Sunday or Monday.

Otherwise I'm starting to think about the Swine flu. I'm supposed to depart from Mexico on 13-Aug. But I don't know if I'll have a flight as it may be cancelled... But right now the travel agent and Iberia cannot tell me anything, so I should wait till June I guess. Technically I could go to Venezuela, Surinam, Brazil... if I cannot go to Mexico. But everything will probably depend on what the travel agent & Iberia offer me.
